Tooth Restoration with Inlays and Onlays

When the enamel of the tooth that needs to be restored is still healthy, the restoration technique known as inlay is done. This is an indirect restoration, wherein materials like gold or porcelain are used. Inlays and onlays are used to replace a tooth which cannot be repaired with a filling, but which does not need a crown. While an inlay is placed at the center of the tooth, a dental onlay is usually done on the outside, the inside, and on the tooth cusps. The former type of restoration technique is used on the back teeth, while the latter one is for the front teeth.

The Procedure Needs Only Two Visits

Dentists at the Bristol Dental Clinic in Mississauga, Ontario are experts in this technique. They usually give two appointments to a patient to complete this restoration work of the teeth. At the first visit, the decayed tooth is cleaned well and an impression is taken. The filling is fabricated at an outside facility. A temporary filling is done on the tooth, which protects the tooth until the permanent one is ready. At the second appointment, the temporary filling is taken out and the pre-fabricated one is cemented into the cavity with dental cement.

Strong and Healthy Filling

This type of tooth restoration is long lasting since the materials that are used are also durable. Since Bristol Dental Clinic uses only good quality porcelain and gold for this procedure, patients can be sure that these will not stain and get spoilt. When porcelain is used for this purpose, it is almost inconspicuous, giving it a natural look. This procedure ensures that the cavity of the tooth is well sealed, thus preventing any further deterioration or decay of the tooth. This paves the way for good dental hygiene.
